- Is a Tractor Description: This tractor is used by Todd Martin to complete biofuel field work: i.e. apply fertilizer, spray, and harvest the field research plots. This John Deere 6140R is the tractor used with the Kemper head harvester and weigh container: Kemper harvester / tractor / weigh container. This John Deere 6140R tractor is equipped with a John Deere 660R Farm Loader when needed to move large square bales from the research fields i.e. fields L1, L2, L3, M1, M2, and M3. 2022-05-10 Harvest Mowed and baled corn stover at Marshall Farm corn field (M1). Bales were transported to KBS Dairy, the diary will use the bales for bedding in the cattle barns. On November 24, 2021 baled the headlands and west side, however the baler broke so we could not finish the field. About 10 windrows (12 corn rows) were made November 24, but were not baled. These windrows stayed like this over the winter and were raked twice with rotary rake on 5/10/2022 to dry out underside of windrows. See attached for yields.

2023-12-19 Planting Broadcast seeded with Gandy orbit air seeder(black metering wheels) with Ag Leader controller and John Deere 6140R tractor. Used dead annual ryegrass(heated to 275 F for 4 hours) as carrier due to seeding rates. Did not seed at rate that accounted for pure live seed, used actual weights. Decided to leave at that rate instead of seeding a small additional amount of seed to the plots. Amount of seed used very close to what was expected to use.
2024-04-10 Harvest Mowed (harvested) switchgrass in T6, reps: 6, 5, 4 and 3. Micro-plots in the Northwest corner of each rep were already harvested in fall of 2023. Equipment used: JD 4995 Discbine. These four reps were harvested and bailed same day. T6 plots were not harvest in fall of 2023 due to prolonged wet weather. Locations where the bales dropped from the baler were marked with JD GPS on the LTER Gator. T6R1 and T6R2 were harvested on 4/15/24, due to weather.

2025-04-12 Harvest Harvested Marshall Farm Prairie Field (M2). This is the 2024 growing season harvest. M2 was not harvested in the fall of 2024 so in the spring of 2025 M2 was harvested. The field was not harvested in the fall of 2024 for several reasons: had a late frost date in 2024 so biomass did not senesce and dry down enough to bale. After the biomass did senescence in the fall of 2024 we received consistent moisture in the form of rain and snow that prevented M2 prairie field from being harvested in the fall of 2024. M2 was not harvested in the fall of 2023 because of adverse and unfavorable harvest weather to complete harvest in the fall of 2023.

After the biomass did senescence in the fall of 2024 we received consistent moisture in the form of rain and snow that prevented T6 plots from being harvested in the fall of 2024.

The unfertilized 15' microplot received NO fertilizer. The fertilized 76.86' was fertilized at 50 lbs N/A applied in 2 passes of the sprayer. Treatment G10 was fertilized on only 15' on west side of plot. Conditions: see application record.
