2011-11-01 Harvest Harvested GLBRC main site treatment G5, switchgrass plots, all reps. Plots were harvested with a JD 7350 self-propelled forage harvester equipped with a JD 676 cutting head. Plant material was chopped into tare-weighed grain/forage trucks which was reweighed to determine harvestable biomass. Weight of the truck was determined by the scales at the KBS Dairy Farm. Cutting height of remaining plant stubble was 6 inches in reps 1, 2, and 3. Eight inch cutting height in reps 4 and 5. Grab samples from each rep was placed in paper bags weighed for wet weight and placed in plant dryer and reweighed to determine percent moisture for each replication.

2011-12-13 Harvest Harvested Corn Stover from all reps of G1 and G2. Harvested - Eastern 75 feet (30 rows) of each plot, expect for G2R1 the western 75 feet (30 rows) was harvested. The remaining 15' (6 rows) area unharvested is the stover non-removal microplot, located on the western 15' of each plot.

2008-07-23 Harvest Harvested the wheat in the LTER main site T6 plots, reps: 1, 2, 4, 3, 5, and 6. Treatment 6 is normally planted to alfalfa however we planted wheat in the T6 plots in the fall of 2007 so that we would have a crop rotation between removing the old seeding of alfalfa and the new seeding of alfalfa. At harvest all wheat straw was chopped back onto the T6 plots.

2013-06-04 Harvest Harvested Rye cover crop in GLBRC Main Site G2,G3,G4 all replications. Used John Deere 7350 forage harvester and direct cut into a truck. After each replication the truck was weighed and a grab sample was taken.

Areas soybeans were harvested today: The 1st plot (in rep 6) east of the Rep 6 miscanthus plot had about 1/4 of the plot that was harvested today. On the east edge the far east 30 ft of the 90 ft that is farmed. On the south edge the far south 30 ft of the 90 ft that is farmed.

Also harvested the remaining soybeans in the bait crop, biodiversity, and CE studies.

2014-11-03 Harvest Harvested LTER T3 Micro-Plots. Started harvesting T3 micro plots on October 29, 2014. T3 Rep 6 was completely harvested on October 29, 2014. T3 Rep 1 plot #1 was completely harvested and the 2nd and 3rd plots were not completely harvested due to weeds plugging corn head on Kincaid plot combine. The rest of T3 Rep 1 and Reps 2-5 were harvested on November 3, 2014. Plots are harvested from the West to the East. In rep one the 2 plot from the west is only 25'6" and the 3rd plot is 21'. In rep 2 the 5th plot is unusable data and the 6th plot is 23'. Harvested with the Kincaid 8XP plot combine and the plot weight and moisture content were determined by the the the on-board Mirus Harvest Master computer/software weighing system.

Plot weight and moisture content were obtained from the on-board Mirus software by Harvest Master. On November 10, 2014 rows 2 and 5 were harvested individually to compare to rows 3 and 4. Also on November 10, 2014 the main plots and border plots were cleaned up with the Kincaid 8XP Plot combine.

2015-09-30 Harvest Harvested soybeans on the LTER Main Site between September 30, and October 2, 2015, treatments T1, T2, and T3; all replications. Please notes below for specific dates for individual harvest dates for each specific plot. Number of soybean rows harvested from both east and west sides were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Plot weight was determined by unloading soybeans from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. At harvest each plots were divided into two distinct sides, the west side and the east side. With 15' of the north and south ends 'headland passes of each plot being included in the west side data. The west side of each plot contained a headland pass across the entire width of the plot on the north and south end of each plot and ~ 107-110 rows of soybeans for T1-T3 and 54 rows for T4 located on the west side of each plot. The created headland was one pass across both north and south headland with the JD 9410 combine with a grain head (15 feet wide). The reason that we need to create an artificial headland was because we needed more room to turn the combine around. Grain yield and moisture from treatments 1-4 across all six replications were recorded. However, the standard agronomic yields recorded on the web page were taken only from the east side of the plots. The decision to post the yield from only the east side of the plots stems from the fact that on the west side of the plot contains a micro plot area and headland passes. In northwest corner of treatments 1 and 2 are the micro plots that did not receive any weed control, cultivation or herbicides. Because of the competition from the weed in the micro plots the decision was made to record the official yields from the east side of the plots. The micro plot area measures 50 ft (15 meters) from the north edge of the plots towards to south and 133.3 ft (40 meters) from the west edge of the plots towards the east. The micro plot area in treatments 1 and 2 that did not receive any weed control was mowed down before harvest. 2015-10-08 Harvest Harvested soybeans from the LTER N-rate Study (Resource Gradient Experiment) (Irrigated Fertility Gradient and Non-Irrigated Fertility Gradient). Four rows of soybeans were harvested from the middle of each plot (rows 5-8, from each plot, each plot had eleven rows). Plot weight and moisture content were obtained from the on-board computer/software weighing system, (Mirus software by Harvest Master, Juniper Systems). Brook Wilke harvested the remaining plot area soybeans on October 8, 2015 with the JD 9410 combine and white/green grain truck (truck #1270).

2015-11-11 Harvest Harvested corn in the FSC and GLBRC N-rate applicator study. Two rows of corn spaced 30 inches apart and 60 feet and 55 feet long were harvested. Harvested with the Kincaid 8XP plot combine. Plot weight and moisture content were determined by the the the on-board Mirus Harvest Master computer/software weighing system. Brook Wilke harvested the remaining rows of corn in these studies area on November 11, 2015 with the JD 9410 combine.

2016-07-12 Harvest Harvested LTER Main Site Treatments T1 and T2 soft red winter wheat, T1 all replications were harvested on July 12, 2016. T2R6 was harvested on July ?, 2016. Before harvest we removed 'harvested' a 15' headland pass on all north and south end of each plot. The grain harvested from the 'headland pass' was not recorded as weight of grain removed from each plot. The reason for the 15' headland pass on both end of each plot was so that we would have room to turn the combine around in the alleyway. We harvested 10 passes with the combine on each side of the plot. i.e. harvested 10 passes on the east side of the plot and harvested 10 passes on the west side of the plots. We record a weight from all the east and west sides of all the plots however all the plot weights were joined and one weight was recorded from each plot. 2016 was the first year that the harvest plot weight was from the entire plot area not just the weight from the east side of each plot. The amount of wheat harvested from each plot would not fit into the JD 9410 grain tank so we split the plots in half (based on number of passes needed to harvest each plot). 2016 was the first year that the harvest plot weight was from the entire plot area not just the weight from the east side of each plot. For all plots one wheat grain sample was collected to be used to analyze for percent moisture and test weight of the wheat grain. Straw was wind-rowed behind the combine so that we could bale and remove the straw from all T1 and T2 plots. Total number of wheat rows were determined prior to harvesting the wheat to determine the width of the area harvested. At planting time in fall of 2015 we made 19 passes with a 15' JD 1590 grain drill. 15' * 12"/ft = 180". 180" / 7.5" per row = 24 rows of wheat planted at each pass. 24 rows of wheat each pass * 19 passes per plot = 456 rows of wheat planted in each plot. A John Deere 9410 combine was used to harvest the wheat from all the plots. Weight of the wheat grain was determined using a Unverferth weigh wagon equipped with weigh cells on the axle and tough of the wagon. Moisture of the grain was determined using a portable Dicky John grain analysis computer.

2017-10-18 Harvest Harvested corn in the LTER Main Site Treatments T1, T2, T3, and T4 corn plots, all replications. Dates plots were harvested: October 18, 2017: T1R1, T1R2, T1R3, T1R4, T2R1, T2R2, T2R3, T2R3, T3R1, T3R2, T3R3, and T3R4. October 19, 2017: T1T5 T1R6, T2R5 T2R6, T3R5, T3R6, T4R1, T4R2, T4R3, T4R4, T4R5, and T4R6. Before harvest we removed 'harvested' a 15' headland pass on all north and south end of each plot. The grain harvested from the 'headland pass' was not recorded as weight of grain removed from each plot. The reason for the 15' headland pass on both end of each plot was so that we would have room to turn the combine around in the alleyway. We record a weight from all the east and west sides of all the plots however all the plot weights were joined and one weight was recorded from each plot. 2016 was the first year that the harvest plot weight was from the entire plot area not just the weight from the east side of each plot. 2017 was the second year (first year for corn) that the weight from each plot was from the entire plot area not just the weight from the east side of each plot. Total number of corn rows were determined prior to harvesting the corn to determine the width of the area harvested. At planting time in spring of 2017 we made 19 passes with a 15' JD 1730 corn planter (30 inch rows). 19 * 6 rows/pass = 114 rows. Corn was harvested with a John Deere 9410 combine. Plot weight was determined by unloading corn from the combine in to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co., equipped with three load (weigh) cells. The three load cells are located on the axle and tow tongue (hitch) of the wagon. Moisture and test weights were determined using a portable Dicky-john GAC500 XT grain analysis moisture tester. Corn variety harvested was (Dekalb DKC52-84 RIB) corn hybrid in T1, T2, and T3 plots. Corn variety harvested was ? in T4 plots. Estimated harvest time was from 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time).

2017-10-20 Harvest Harvested corn from the LTER N-rate Study (Non-Irrigated only Fertility Gradient). For each plot two rows of corn were harvested from the middle of each plot (rows 3 and 4 from each plot). Plot weight and moisture content were obtained from the on-board Mirus software by Harvest Master. A sample of grain was collected and bagged from each plot this year. Samples were requested by Bonnie McGill (grad student). Harvested with the Kincaid 8XP plot combine. Doug Reed was the staff member that helped collect samples today.

Harvested soybeans in the bait crop around the GLBRC site, 'rep 6' plots (2 west plots), and north half of the ('old' Productivity study area). Amount of soybeans harvested in the bait crop area: The two 'rep 6' plots were 1040 lbs at 16.1% moisture and 55.0 lbs/bu (test weight). Amount of soybeans harvested in the bait crop area: The soybean bait crop around the GLBRC main plots, which consisted of one strip on beans (south strip) on the north side of the field and two strips on the east and south strips (both east and south strips of beans in the two outer strips i.e. of the three bait strips on the east side we had soybeans in the west and east strips of the three strips of beans. On the south side of the three bait strips we had soybeans in the north and south strips of beans). Also we had beans in the north half of the 'old' Productivity study area. Total amount harvested in the five strips of beans and 'old' productivity study was 8140 lbs at 16.1 % moisture and 52.9 lbs/bu (test weight). 2018-10-09 Harvest Harvested soybeans on the LTER Main Site between October 9, and October 10, 2018, treatments T1, T2, and T3; all replications. Please notes below for specific dates for individual harvest dates for each specific plot. Number of soybean rows harvested from each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Plot weight was determined by unloading soybeans from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. At harvest each plot was harvested as one plot area (was not harvested with the west side and the east side). Before harvesting the plot area we harvested a 15' 'headland pass' on the north and south end of each plot. The 'headland pass' area was not included in the harvested data area. The west side of each plot contained a headland pass across the entire width of the plot on the north and south end of each plot and ~ 107-110 rows of soybeans for T1-T3 and 54 rows for T4 located on the west side of each plot. The created headland was one pass across both north and south headland with the JD 9410 combine with a grain head (15 feet wide). The reason that we need to create an artificial headland was because we needed more room to turn the combine around. Grain yield and moisture from treatments 1-4 across all six replications were recorded. The micro plot area measures 50 ft (15 meters) from the north edge of the plots towards to south and 133.3 ft (40 meters) from the west edge of the plots towards the east. The micro plot area in treatments 1 and 2 that did not receive any weed control was mowed down before harvest. Harvest dates for specific plots: October 9, 2018: T1R1, T1R2, T1R3, T1R4; T2R1, T2R2, T2R3, T2R4, T2R5, and T2R6; T3R1, T3R2, T3R3, T3R4. Because T3 plots were 'replanted or inter-seeded' in June because of a poor stand due to seed corn maggot eating the soybeans. We did not count number of rows harvested for the width of harvested area. In 2021 in T3 plots we measured the area (in ft) away from the plot corner post to determine the area harvested. Seed corn maggot was eating the soybean seed so we had a poor stand of beans. We inter-seed more soybeans in between the existing rows of soybeans. So counting rows was impractical because of the number of rows planted was hard to see because of the inter-seeded rows from the second planting date. Plot weight was determined by unloading soybeans from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. At harvest each plot was harvested as one plot area (plots were NOT harvested with the west side and the east side).
