2004-04-07 Planting No-till planted oats at 2 bu/A (64 lbs/A) (71.85 kg/ha) in the biodiversity study treatment's B3, B5, and B16, all replications, plot numbers B3: 111, 203, & 306, and 403, B5: 114, 217, 312, & 405, B16: 101, 210, 308, & 416. Oats were not treated or certified they were cleaned ben run oats. Oats were planted 1 inch deep. Oats were planted with a JD 6400 tractor and JD 750 grain drill (no-till drill). I would have liked to plant the oats at 2.5 bu/A, but I did not have enough seed so I only planted at the 2 bu/A rate. Planting oats is not a normal part of the biodiversity protocol however, because of wet weather after the 2003 harvest c. rye was not planted so it was decided that oats would be the best option to replace the c. rye cover crop treatment.
1993-04-27 Soil Preparation {{PL: <Action> Rotation Study; Treatments 3a were plowed in all four reps. Ground was then tilled with a disk and culti-packer to firm it up. Oats were then seeded at 65 lbs/a along with 18 lbs/a Alfalfa. The Tye drill was used.}}
1993-10-05 Planting {{PL: <Action>Rotation study; Broadcast by hand oats at 64 lbs/a on treatment 3b for all reps. }}
1988-05-24 Soil Preparation {{PL: After dragging and cultipacking the appropriate plots in the Rotation Study, Jim B. and Andrew Seitz planted Oats at 2 bushels/acre and Medium Red Clover at 12 pounds/acre using the Tye ‘Series 5’ No-till grain drill.}}
1993-08-04 Harvest {{PL: <Action>Rotation Study; Cut treatment 3a (oats) for all reps with combine. Used Pruden’s weigh wagon again to weigh out plots. Oats were not too bad, alfalfa looked good that was interseeded into crop. }}
2011-08-25 Planting Planted oats into the GLBRC Main Site Treatment G4, canola stubble. Oats, varitey ForagePlus, ”Lot 2-FP-0-FP1TS0, FP2TS0;0D8” was seeded at 90 lbs/A using a John Deere 750 no-till drill at 7.5 inches between row pulled by the John Deere 7420a tractor. The full width of the plots was seeded, extending into the alleys on all four sides of the plot. The canola stubble was left following swathing and harvesting of the canola on 8/4 and 8/12 respectively, and was about 8-12” high.

2008-06-19 Soil Preparation Soil finished all alleyway areas in the GLBRC intensive site on June 19, 2008. On June 20, 2008 Mark Klok planted oats in all the GLBRC intensive alleyway areas.
2019-04-24 Planting Planted oats in the LTER Biodiversity Study treatments (should be winter wheat, never had time to plant so being prepared for oats) plots. : B4 (104, 220, 307, 404), B7 (105,219, 305, 407), B10 (117, 209, 320, 410), B17 (116, 211, 302, 417), B20 (120, 215, 318, 420). Oats Planted at 108 lbs/A.
2021-04-02 Planting Oats: fertilize oat area with 90 lbs N, 13.5 lbs S, (60 lbs K2O 3-22-2021) per acre. Plant oat variety trial with cone seeder.
2022-05-17 Planting Planted prairie mixture and cover crop blend in LTAR prairie areas. Planted in 7.5" rows using shallowest setting on grain drill.
2022-05-20 Soil Preparation Cultimulched and planted prairie mixture in six LTAR aspirational fields. Planted seeds as shallow (~1/4") as drill would plant with low down pressure, into tilled and cultipacked soil.
