Name: JD tractor - type unknown

2000-05-03 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed Bio-complexity study. Not sure what tractor was used, either the FSC's JD 7600 tractor or the Dairy's JD 7810 tractor. The only chisel plow around KBS in 2000 was the Dairy's Glencoe chisel plow.

2000-05-03 Planting May 3, 2000 planted rye cover crop in treatment 6, replications 1,2,3, & 4. May 4, 2000 planted rye cover crop in treatment 6, replications 5, & 6. Brian who worked at the FSC planted the rye cover crop. Not sure but I think the JD 6400 tractor and JD 750 no-till drill was used to plant the rye. The rye was no-tilled so the JD 750 would have been used.

2000-05-03 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed treatment 3, all replications, reps: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Not sure what tractor was used, either the FSC's JD 7600 tractor or the Dairy's JD 7810 tractor. The only chisel plow around KBS in 2000 was the Dairy's Glencoe chisel plow.

2000-06-07 Soil Preparation Soil finished treatment 3 and 4, all replications. John Stephenson soil finished. Not sure what equipment was used. Not sure if we used the 12' Glencoe Field cultivator or the 15' soil finisher that belongs to the KBS Dairy. Depending on which field tool we used would have made a difference in what tractor was used. Because the notes stated that the plots were soil finished it makes me think that the Dairy's soil finisher was used. Most likely used the FSC's JD 7600 tractor to soil finish. We could not have field cultivated all reps with the 12' field cultivator.

2000-05-04 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed treatment 1, all replications, reps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Not sure what tractor was used, either the FSC's JD 7600 tractor or the Dairy's JD 7810 tractor. The only chisel plow around KBS in 2000 was the Dairy's Glencoe chisel plow.

2000-05-15 Soil Preparation Field cultivated Bio-complexity study (2 times). Not sure what equipment was used. Not sure if we used the 12' Glencoe Field cultivator or the 15' soil finisher that belongs to the KBS Dairy. Depending on which field tool we used would have made a difference in what tractor was used.

2000-05-26 Mechanical Weed Control Rotary Hoed all the corn in the Bio-complexity study. John Stephenson did the rotary hoeing. Not sure what equipment was used. I would guess that the JD 5400 or JD 6400 tractor was used and either the Case IH 15' rotary hoe was used or the JD 400 rotary hoe was used.

1996-04-28 Soil Preparation {{PL: Plowed LTER MS TRT 3 and 4 across all six replicates for each treatment. Used JD and White roll-over plows w/ 3 bottoms each. Used Steve Norris's JD Tractor for the JD plow. Gary Bashore and I plowed both treatments in about 9.75 hr. Each plot took about 47.5 min to plow averaged across all rep and trt. Plow depth was about 7 inches deep. Soil was a little wet, however plowed because forecast for mon-thur looked bad for the following week. Joe wasn't available, so Gary and I removed the gas box near the gas shed and replaced after plowing had been completed. Joe didn't have a problem with this. Gary's Case 885 tractor had a hydrolic leak. A loose nut near the fuel tank on a hydrolic line was causing it to leak. I tightned it up and leak has appeared to stop.}}

2008-05-12 Fertilizer Application Applied 0-0-60, potash fertilizer, at ? lbs/A (? kg/ha) to the T8nt plots, N-rate studies (both irrigated and non-irrigated) The ? lbs/A provided ? lbs/A of K20 to the plots. The fertilizer was applied with the JD ? tractor traveling at ? mph and Gandy Orbit-Air with a 30 ft boom.

2008-07-31 Observation Rolled the oats down in all reps of the GLBRC poplar plots. Used Todd's JD 5225 tractor and small (5 1/2 ft) roller/crimper.

2000-05-03 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed treatment 4. See notes below for specific dates in which replications were chisel plowed. May 3, 2000 chisel plowed T4 reps: 1, 2, and 3; May 4, 2000 chisel plowed T4 reps: 4, 5, and 6. Not sure what tractor was used, either the FSC's JD 7600 tractor or the Dairy's JD 7810 tractor. This plots are small so we could have used the 12' field cultivator.

2000-05-30 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed microplots in treatment 7, all replications. Not sure what tractor was used either the FSC's JD 7600 or the Dairy's JD 7810. The only chisel plowed around KBS in 2000 was the Glencoe nine shank chisel plow.

2002-04-23 Mowing Wheat stubble from the 2001 crop was mowed on the main site treatment 2 all reps. Not sure what equipment was used. I would guess the JD 6400 or JD 7400 tractor was used and JD 10' bush-hog type mower or the JD 115 flail mower was used. Not sure when we bought the flail mower to use on the LTER? Each plot was taking about 35 - 40minutes to mow.

2004-09-10 Mowing Flail mowed the ragweed in LTER T1 plots. Flail mowed wheat stubble so that weeds did not produce seeds. Because the weeds in the tire tracks came back up over the weekend we flail mowed T2 plots again (we flail mowed on Sept 2, 2004). September 8, 2004 flail mowed T1 reps: 1 and 6; September 10, 2004 flail mowed the ragweed in T1 reps: 3, 2, 4, and 5.

2000-05-25 Planting Planted Pioneer 9172 soybeans in treatments 1, all replications. I think the JD 6400 tractor was used to plant the soybeans. The JD 750 drill was used to plant the soybeans. Planted Pioneer 9172 soybeans (2,800 seeds/lbs). Seed used 22 bags (50 lbs/bag). Meter on the drill said we planted 14.7 A Setting on the drill: 16.

Depending on which field tool we used would have made a difference in what tractor was used. Because the notes stated that the plots were soil finished it makes me think that the Dairy's soil finisher was used. We could not have field cultivated all reps in one day with the 12' field cultivator.

2000-10-31 Mowing Mowed wheat stubble and fallow plots in the Bio-complexity. Mowed the wheat stubble to keep weeds from producing seeds. Mowed the fallow plots so that we could till the fall fallow plots and make the spring fallow plots look good for the winter. Not sure which tractor and mower was used? The JD 6400 or JD 7400 tractor was most likely used. The only mower around at this time was the JD 10' bush-hog mower.

2000-08-22 Mowing Mowed all the plots that had spring wheat growing in them. Because this was the first year of the study we planted spring wheat so that we would have the crop growing in each plot, instead of leaving them fallow until this fall. The spring wheat did not develop enough to harvest (take any yield data). We just mowed them down to simulated harvest.

2002-04-20 Fertilizer Application Applied Potash (0-0-60) at 125 lbs/A on main site treatment 1 all reps, treatment 2 all reps, and treatment 3 all reps. Potash was applied using a pull type fertilizer spreader with spinners on the back of the spreader. Not sure which tractor was used: JD 6400, JD 7400, or JD 7600 tractor was used; I would guess that the JD 7400 tractor was used.
