Name: Truax No Till Seed Drill

2009-07-07 Planting Because of a heavy/hard rain event within two weeks of planting the G5, G7, and G10 plots in June 2008 a lot of the seed ended up in the alleyway or adjacent plots. G7 species planted http://data.sustainability.glbrc.org/protocols/144 After evaluating the plant stands within the plots in June of 2009 we determined that the desired plant stands were not at the desired levels so the decision was made to replant G5, G7, and G10 plots. KBS staff, MSU campus staff, and Jerry Stewart all provided input into the decision to replant the G5, G7, and G10 plots. Jerry Stewart, from Native Connections, Three Rivers, MI, www.nativeconnection.net, replanted G5 and G7, all reps, on July 7, 2009. G10 was replanted on July 15, 2009. 2009 Tillage: No-till, all replanting in 2009 of G5, G7, and G10 plots were no-tilled. 2008 tillage were conventional tilled. 2009 row spacing: for all replanting in 2009 of G5, G7, and G10 plots were planted in 7.5 inch rows. 2008 row spacing: in 2008 G5, G7, and G10 plots were solid seeded. Jerry planted in rep of each treatment and than he would vacuum the seed out of the drill between each rep and weigh the seed to see how much seed/Acre he planted.

2016-06-29 Planting Planted the switchgrass in the interaction plots today. Jerry Stewart, from Native Connections, Three Rivers, MI, www.nativeconnection.net, planted all the interaction plots on June 29, 2016. Tillage: No-till. Variety planted: Switchgrass (Cave-in-Rock); Row spacing: 7.5 inch rows. Jerry was trying to plant the switchgrass at 7 lbs/A. Inside the lysimeter frames raked and loosened the soil so that we could hand seed the switchgrass within the frames. (inside the lysimeter frames we handed today, June 29, 2016 as well as the whole plot area). Jerry planted with his JD 5320 tractor and his Truax no-till drill.

2019-04-25 Planting Jerry Stewart (Native Connections) planted the prairie strips in the T3 and T4 plots today. A nurse crop of annual ryegrass at 5 lbs/acre and spring oats at 20 lbs/acre was added to the seed mix. The nurse crop helps bring up the seeding rate to be more manageable amount allowing us to seed through the back seed box of a Truax No-till Seed Drill.
