2003-10-08 Fertilizer Application 19-19-19 fertilizer was applied at 167 lbs/A to all replications of treatments 1 and 2 on the main site. Fertilizer was blended together and applied using the JD 6400 with a pull type Willmar, 5 ton PTO driven spinner spreader.

2004-04-07 Planting No-till planted oats at 2 bu/A (64 lbs/A) (71.85 kg/ha) in the biodiversity study treatment's B3, B5, and B16, all replications, plot numbers B3: 111, 203, & 306, and 403, B5: 114, 217, 312, & 405, B16: 101, 210, 308, & 416. Oats were not treated or certified they were cleaned ben run oats. Oats were planted 1 inch deep. Oats were planted with a JD 6400 tractor and JD 750 grain drill (no-till drill). I would have liked to plant the oats at 2.5 bu/A, but I did not have enough seed so I only planted at the 2 bu/A rate. Planting oats is not a normal part of the biodiversity protocol however, because of wet weather after the 2003 harvest c. rye was not planted so it was decided that oats would be the best option to replace the c. rye cover crop treatment.

2003-07-03 Mechanical Weed Control (entry 1) Row cultivated all corn treatments in the biodiversity study. Row cultivation was done with JD 6400 and 6 row Case IH row cultivator. After row cultivation red clover was applied at 15 lbs/A in a 20 inch band on treatments B3, B6, and B15 in the biodiversity study. The clover was applied with the JD 5400 at 4 mph, B3 1500 rpm's, and Gandy Air seeder, gate setting was 1.15.

2003-07-03 Mechanical Weed Control Row cultivated the ECB study. Row cultivation was done with JD 6400 and Case IH 6 row cultivator.

2003-07-14 Mechanical Weed Control Row cultivated the soybeans on the main site treatment 3 replications 6, 1, 3, 2, 4, and 5. Row cultivated treatment 4 replications 5, 3, 2, 1, 4, and 6. Cultivation was done with the JD 6400 and 6 row Case IH row cultivator. The cultivator had all the loose soil removed before cultivating.

2005-08-25 Harvest Mick baled the alfalfa from the main site treatment 6, all replications. Mick baled with the JD 2155 tractor and NH baler, square bales. Matt picked up the bales with the JD 6400 tractor and NH bale stacker. The moisture on the alfalfa was 14% in rep 6 and 15% in rep 1.

2007-07-20 Harvest Baled T6, all reps. Baled into small square bales. I think Jim S. used the JD 2155 tractor and NH 1469 baler to bale the plots today. Jim B. picked up all the square bales from the plots today.

2007-08-31 Harvest Raked T6 plots again today, yes we raked on August 30 and 31, 2007. Raked T6 plots, all reps, reps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. On August 31, 2007 we doubled all the windrows up again (two windrow into one bigger windrow). So over the last two days we put four windrows into one windrow. Mick baled T6, all reps, reps: 5, 4, 3, 6, 1, and 2. Baled into small square bales. Jim B. picked up all the bales from T6 plots, all reps.

2001-04-27 Soil Preparation Field cultivated the micro-plots in treatment 7, all replications, reps: 2, 4, 3, 5, 1, and 6. The field cultivator was a 12 ft Glenco with 4” sweep shovels and a spike tooth harrow. I went over each plot 2 times.

2001-10-04 Soil Preparation Chisel plowed the wheat plots in the biodiversity study. Field cultivated the same plots with a 12 ft glenco. Planted Pioneer 25R26 soft red winter wheat into the same plots. Drill setting was on 41. Meter on drill indicated that I planted 1.9 acres. A total of 6 bags of seed were used.

2004-06-30 Fertilizer Application Applied nitrogen to both N-rate studies. Applied ammonium-nitrate to the corn in the studies. Row cultivated (twice) after the application of the ammonium-nitrate was applied. The reason we cultivated twice was to make sure we incorporated all the fertilizer into the soil. The second time we cultivated we went in the opposite direction of the first cultivation.

2016-10-10 Harvest Harvested Corn Stover in the GLBRC, treatments: G2 and G3, all replications. Harvested - Eastern 75 feet (30 rows) of each plot, except for G2R1 and G3R1 the western 75 feet (30 rows) were harvested. The remaining 15' (6 rows) area unharvested is the stover non-removal microplot, located on the western 15' of each plot, except for G2R1 and G3R1 where it is located on the eastern 15' of the plot. Stover weights were determined by placing the round bales of stover on a Rice Lake Rough Deck Floor Scale System (model # 67704)(5,000 lbs capacity) with a RWL 390 DC Indicator. Floor scale was placed on the back of the Dodge truck (with flat bed) (MSU #1653). Truck was driven to each plot and bales were placed on the scales with the JD 7420b tractor with front loader and bale spears. Bales were weighed and removed from the plots on October 11, 2016. Weight of each round bale was recorded. Grab samples from each rep was placed in paper bags weighed for wet weight and placed in plant dryer and reweighed to determine percent moisture for each replication. Estimated harvest time was from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time).
