Name: John Deere 385 round baler

2010-10-22 Harvest Baled corn stover from all reps of G1 and G3 in the GLBRC. Plots were first cut and windrowed with John Deere 4995 Discbine. Windrowed stover material was collected and baled with the JD 7420a tractor and JD 385 round baler. Bales were loaded onto a trailer and taken to the KBS Dairy to be weighed. Each bale had three moisture readings taken using a hand-held Farmex® DHT-1 Digital Hay Tester with 32” Probe.

2009-05-08 Harvest Baled corn stover from all reps of G1 and G2 in the GLBRC. Baled with JD 7420a tractor and JD 385 round baler. The corn stover was removed in the spring of 2009 because KBS received snow in the fall of 2008 that made removal of corn stover unachievable. To facilitate the maximum amount of corn stover removal the round baler has a flail chopper that can be attached to the front of the baler. We attached the flail chopper to round baler in the spring of 2009.

2009-11-24 Harvest Baled corn stover from the GLBRC Main Intensive Site treatments G1 (all replications) and G4 (all replications). Baled with the round baler, bales weighed at the dairy scales. Moisture determined by taking 3 readings per bale with a Farmex® DHT-1 Digital Hay Tester with 32” Probe.

2013-07-25 Harvest Baled straw from the LTER Main Site Treatments T1 and T2, all replications. Straw from the wheat harvest was cut one day before it was baled except for rep 6. Each plot was then individually round baled. In most plots, multiple round bales were made; at the end of each plot remaining straw in the baler was baled regardless of the size of the bale. Bales were removed during harvest and weighed to determine the amount of straw per plot.

2013-07-26 Harvest Baled straw from the LTER Lysimeter field. Straw from the wheat harvest was left to dry in the sun for 2 days then was round baled. Bales were removed and weighed to determine the amount of straw within that field. There was 14 bales picked up that totaled 7900 lbs.

2001-07-30 Harvest Baled wheat straw. Baled all reps of T1 and T2. I think we also baled T3 and T4 plots. We did not stop baling T3 and T4 wheat straw until 2004 or 2007.

2007-07-12 Harvest Baled the lysimeter field today. Most likely the JD 7600 tractor was used.

2000-07-20 Harvest Mowed T6 plots, all reps; Please see notes below for specific dates for field activities. July 20, 2000 John S. mowed the lysimeter field; July 24, 2000 John S. raked the lysimeter field (most likely the JD 5400 tractor and NH rake); July 25, 2000 round baled the lysimeter field (I am sure the dairy would have help bale this field).

2007-06-11 Harvest Raked and baled hay from T6 plots. Bob and Gale raked all reps of T6 plots. Bob raked T6 reps: 5 and 6 with the JD 5400 and single rake. Gale raked T6 reps: 1, 2, 3, and 4 with the JD 6420 and double rake. Mick square baled T6 reps: 5, 4, 2, and 1. Greg round baled T6 reps: 6 and 3. Matt picked up the bales not sure if was today or another day this week. Matt would have used the front loader on the tractor and hay wagons to move the round bales.
