Comment:
Replanting of 2025 GLBRC Sorghum N-Rate Study. Because of the poor germination of the first planting in 2025 on the south location we made an effort to replant the sorghum in the north location. This second planting came out of the ground okay, but because of the late planting date and the high grass pressure we did not harvest this study. This planting date was mowed down because it was determined that the yield data was not going to be useful because of the short sorghum due to the late June planting date and the annual grass pressure was also putting negative pressure on the sorghum planting.
Replanting done in the North plot footprint with the leftover 2024 Sorghum seed. This seed had a claimed 55% germination rate. Therefore seeding population was increased to compensate for the low germination rate and the late planting date.
Variety Planted: Iowa State University HPS5500.
Planting Depth: 1.25 to 1.50 inches.
Planting Population: target 220,000 seeds/A, 8lbs planted in 0.4 Acres.
Seed Treatment: Iowa State University HPS5500 was treated with Concep III (seed safener), Apron XL (systemic fungicide) and Maxim 4FS (systemic insecticide). No seed tag or label was available with the seed lot that was sent from Iowa State.
Equipment used: Planted with John Deere 1590 no-till drill. Half of the rows were blocked to plant in 15 inch rows. Drill setting 16.5, seed cups is 1st notch (all the way closed).
