Comment:
Applied 28% liquid nitrogen fertilizer to GLBRC G3 sorghum plots (reps 2, 1, 3, 5, and 4) and to GLBRC Sorghum N-Rate Study (South).
G3 Sorghum plots received 75 lbs/A actual nitrogen, which equals 25 gal/A of 28% fertilizer. This was done in two passes of 12.5 gal/A. Two passes were done to band the nitrogen in 15" rows instead of 30" rows that the applicator is normally designed for.
Nitrogen application in the Sorghum N-Rate study followed the below gradient with applied amounts of liquid 28% fertilizer:
SOF1: 0 lbs/A
SOF2: 25 lbs/A = 8.4 gal/A
SOF3: 50 lbs/A = 16.7 gal/A
SOF4: 75 lbs/A = 25.1 gal/A
SOF5: 100 lbs/A = 33.5 gal/A
SOF6: 125 lbs/A = 41.8 gal/A
SOF7: 150 lbs/A = 50.2 gal/A
SOF8: 175 lbs/A = 58.6 gal/A
All treatments were done with two passes for 15" row banding, except SOF2 (102, 203, 307, 403). Due to the low rate the applicator could not reach half of the desired amount to be split applied, therefore it was applied in one pass of 8.4 gal/A.
(see attached map)
Equipment used: John Deere 7420a tractor with FSC built Nitrogen applicator, orifices used for application were 57 for the five main center rows and 43 for the two outside rows.
