Comment:
Irrigated soybeans in the LTER Irrigated Resource Gradient Experiment (Irrigated N-rate Study). Equipment used: Valley 8000 Linear Irrigation System. Amount of water applied: 0.8583 inch of water was applied (as measured by six rain gauges). Irrigation system delay setting: 24.5; Irrigation pressure: 23 psi; Pressure at the pump: 50 psi. Time of application was between 1:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Weather conditions at the start: sunny, 77.5 degrees F, wind 5-15 mph (3m high 5 minute average wind speed was 8.95 mph) from the northwest, relative humidity 76.8%. Weather conditions at the end (weather update at 3:15 p.m.): sunny, 80.2 degrees F, wind 5-15 mph (3m high 5 minute average wind speed was 7.46 mph) from the northwest, relative humidity 72.9%. Total gallon of water used in this irrigation event (as measure by a in-line water meter): Do not know how many gallons were used for this one irrigation event. Recorded the incorrect numbers on the in-line water meter. The numbers recorded were 2449344.0 gallons on the meter to start and 2450975.0 gallons on the meter to end the irrigation event. Using these numbers would show that we used 1,631 gallons on water and that is just not correct. Maybe the ending meter reading should have been 2550975.0 gallons? Average about 550 gallons per minute (the total gallons in incorrect but the 550 gallons per minute is correct). Using the 550 gallons per minute and 105 minutes the irrigation pump was running would indicate that we used 57,750 gallons of water for this irrigation event.
