Comment:
Standing (ponding) of water on the LTER main site plots was observed Monday March 11, 2019. After warm temperatures and rain over the weekend we observed standing water of several plots most notably in reps 1 and 4. The concern with the ponding of the water is will the standing water terminate the growth of the winter wheat that was planted in October of 2018? Most likely the ponding of water occurred because the ground was still frozen and we received the rain along with the snow melting the water could not infiltrate the soil. Plots with notable water on the plots: T1R1 (north and south ends only), T1R2 (a little at the north and south ends of the plot), T1R3 (middle of the plot), T1R4; T2R1 (west side only), T2R3, T2R4; T3R3, T3R4 (northeast corner), T3R5 (middle of the plot), T3R6; T4R1 (middle of the plot), T4R4, T4R5 (west side of plot); T6R1; plots 605 and 805 in the N-rate study.
