Comment:
ANPP sampled treatment G6. ANPP is assessed by clipping all of the above-ground portion of plants that are rooted within the bounds of a quadrat (0.5m X 2m). Two quadrats (frames) should be sampled in each splitplot (+N and 0N). Sample locations are predetermined to avoid the sheltered area in G5 and associated areas designated for ambient and irrigated plant sampling, as well as harvest yield strips. The predetermined locations are a specified distance and direction from a plot corner. The frame should be oriented perpendicular to the crop rows (in planted systems) to allow for assessment of both the row and inter-row plant communities. All plants rooted within the quadrat are clipped at ground level, bagged, and weighed. Once weighed, the material is run through a shredder. Samples from the two quadrats are shredded together, keeping the splitplots separate. A subsample (10# bag) of the composite shredded material is bagged and weighed. All subsamples are dried at 60C for a minimum of 48 hours and dry weights measured.
