We needed an area to demo a large square baler so we mowed some of the switchgrass and prairie fields Marshall Farm. M3 (switchgrass): Harvest Date: August 27, 2015 60 feet (4 passes/windrows) was harvested from the east fence row (along the road) towards the west and 60 feet from the north fence row towards the south. We harvested in an 'L' shape to make sure to stay out of the 200m diameter buffer area of the Flux Tower. The switchgrass area mowed on August 27, 2015 was baled with a New Holland 340 big square baler. We tried the JD 6170 and JD 7520 tractors on the baler. Harvest Date: September 1, 2015 120 feet (8 passes/windrows) was harvested from the east fence row (along the road) towards the west and 90 feet (6 passes/windrows) from the north fence row towards the south. We harvested in an 'L' shape to make sure to stay out of the 200m diameter buffer area of the Flux Tower. The switchgrass area mowed on September 1, 2015 was baled with a JD L340 big square baler. We tried the JD 6170 and JD 7520 tractors on the baler. M2 (prairie field): Harvest Date: August 27, 2015 60 feet (4 passes/windrows) was harvested from the south fence row (along the road) towards the north. We harvested to make sure to stay out of the 200m diameter buffer area of the Flux Tower. The prairie area mowed on August 27, 2015 was baled with a New Holland 340 big square baler. We tried the JD 6170 and JD 7520 tractors on the baler. Harvest Date: September 1, 2015 105 feet (7 passes/windrows) was harvested from the south fence row (along the road) towards the north. The switchgrass area mowed on September 1, 2015 was baled with a JD L340 big square baler. We tried the JD 6170 and JD 7520 tractors on the baler. We harvested to make sure to stay out of the 200m diameter buffer area of the Flux Tower.
