Comment:
We observed spots on the leaves of the poplar trees so we sent a sample to the MSU diagnostic lab. The attached sheets shows the results. We observed the spots in past years but we this was the first time we that we sent in a sample to the diagnostic lab. So we can not say for sure that the spots observed in past years was marssonina leaf spot or something else however it a good chance that it was marssonina. We received the results from the MSU diagnostic lab concerning the GLBRC and LTER leaf samples. Results: Septoria leaf spot in LTER poplar trees and marssonina leaf spot in the GLBRC. LTER: Septoria Canker Leaf Spot (Septoria musiva) GLBRC: Marssonina Leaf Spot (Marssoina populi) Management: At this time no changes will take place with the management of the trees at either site after the diagnosis of septoria and marssonina. Attached you will see the reports sent by the diagnostic lab. The link below from Coloardo Extention explains Septoria and Marssonina leaf spot. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/garden/02920.html
