There was a grass fire at the Marshall Farm on Saturday (2013-4-6) afternoon/evening - little if any research impact I think and Mrs. Marshall's homestead wasn't touched nor any other buildings. Started at a home on the south side of Hickory Road then jumped the road just west of our prairie site and proceeded north and west all the way to the lake down the west side of the fields. It's basically blackened from the end of the two track at the top of the hill looking south to Hickory Road and northwest to the lake (it got about a quarter of the way around it). Two sample stations are within 50 feet of the burn border. A Hickory Corners firefighter told me it took 7 fire departments to get it under control (high winds) including the DNR and there were a couple more flareups early this morning. It looks like the trucks stuck mostly to the two-track so no obvious impact and I guess most of the ash blew northwest. I would guess that Mike might see a blip in the CO2 record on at least the reference site which thankfully was well away from flying embers
