Comment:
Irrigated the LTER Irrigated Fertility Gradient Study (N-rate Study). The study was irrigated with the Valley 8000 Linear Irrigation System, 1.25 inches (3.06 cm) of water was applied (as measured by rain gauges located at the edges of plots 704 and 504). Pressure at the irrigator was 22 p.s.i., delay setting was 19.5. Pressure at the pump was 57 p.s.i. Time of application was between 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Weather conditions at start were sunny, 68 degrees F (20 degrees C), 79% relative humidity, winds calm. Weather conditions at end were sunny, 79 degrees F (26.1 degrees C), 66% relative humidity, winds calm. During the irrigation, a mechanical issue caused excess water to be applied to part of the study. With the linear system almost centered over plots 605 and 805, the irrigator did not move for approximately 10 minutes which probably applied 8-10x more water in this area than compared to the rest of the study area. Because the width of the irrigation zone was approximately 30 feet, 1/2 of each of the adjacent plots (the east 1/2 of 604 and 804; the west 1/2 of 606 and 806) also received excess water.
