Fertilized the LTER Cellulosic Biofuels Experiment, treatments C4 Switchgrass (Cave-in-rock + N) (reps 110, 203, 302, and 404) and C6 Switchgrass (Southlow + N) (reps 111, 204, 310, and 408). All plots were fertilized with 50 lbs N/A applied as 28% N fertilizer (UAN) which is comprised of Urea + Ammonium Nitrate (CAS #57-13-6 Urea, #6484-52-5 Ammonium Nitrate). 28% fertilizer weighs 10.67 lbs /gallon so the 50 lbs N/A worked out to 16.7 gal 28%/A. All treatment plots were sprayed in one pass of the sprayer with the outside two nozzles shut off leaving the boom width, from outside to outside nozzles, of 27.5'. Conditions: Cloudy with air temperature approximately 63 degrees F (18.3 degrees C). Relative Humidity was approximately 90%. Wind was calm. Time of application was between 11:15 and 11:59 a.m. Equipment Used: JD 5220 tractor traveling 2.7 mph (gear B3, 1450) with a pull type Top Air sprayer equipped with a hydraulic centrifugal sprayer pump and a Raven 440 automatic carrier control unit. Turbo TeeJet 11003 nozzles were used, spaced 30 inches apart with a total boom length of 30 feet. 20 psi were used. Purpose of Application: Supply nitrogen to the treatment plots.
