Comment:
Fertilized the GLBRC Main Site Treatment G8 Poplar trees, all replications (reps. 2, 1, 4, 5, and 3). Trees fertilized with ammonium nitrate at 140 lbs N/A (412 lbs NH4NO3/A). Fertilizer was applied in 2 passes using a three-point mounted Gandy Orbit-Air fertilizer applicator with a 6.5' boom length on which were mounted 8 nozzles; however, the nozzles were set to apply the fertilizer over the entire 8' distance between tree rows. Calibration rates were determined based on an 8' boom length. The Gandy was pulled by a John Deere 4400 compact tractor. The Gandy was calibrated to apply 1.125 lbs /min/nozzle when traveling in drive setting A at maximim velocity with 2500 engine RPMs. For each treatment plot, a 15' unfertilized microplot area was left on the southern side of the plot. Because of the staggered planting arrangement, either 3 or 4 trees in each row were in the microplot. Weather conditions: initially partly cloudy to sunny at end. Temperatures 68-80 degrees F. Initial relative humidity was 92%. No wind.
