Previous crop in 2003: corn. Treatment 2 had Lorsban 15G (chlorpyrifos) insecticide applied at 8 oz/1,000 foot of row (8.7 lbs/A or 9.77 kg/ha). Treatments 1, 3, and the border rows did not have any insecticide applied to them. |
| 2004-04-29 | Planting | Planted corn in the Nitrogen Rate studies (the area just inside the LTER main gate on the west side of the drive), irrigated and non-irrigated, with the JD7520 tractor and JD1730 planter. Planted Pioneer 35Y55 corn at 30K seeds/A (74K seeds/ha). 35Y55 is a Bt variety for protection against corn borer. Row spacing: 30 inches (76.2 cm). Planting depth was 2 inches (5 cm). Soil temperature at planting was 60 degrees F. Previous crop in 2003: corn. Lorsban 15G (chlorpyrifos) insecticide was applied at 8 oz/1,000 foot of row (8.7 lbs/A or 9.77 kg/ha). The six border rows on each side of both studies and plot area for both studies were planted with 35Y55. However, as part of an insect resistance management plan the area between the irrigated and non-irrigated studies was planted to Pioneer 35Y54 corn variety. 35Y54 is a non Bt variety. A total of twelve rows were planted to 35Y54. Lorsban was applied to the entire study area and the twelve rows between studies. The first six border rows on the west side of the non-irrigated study did not have any Lorsban applied to them. Leaving six rows without the Lorsban provides an area to set up the corn planter and check planting depth without the insecticide being present. |

| 2000-05-24 | Planting | Planted corn in the Entomology study. The Bt variety planted was Pioneer 36G13. The non Bt variety planted was Pioneer 3573. At planting time we applied 28% (28-0-0) fertilizer at 10 gals/A (30 llbs/A) across all treatments. One gallon of 28% is 10.67 lbs. The fertilizer pump was set on 2.5 Planting population: I think we planted the corn at 28,000 seeds/A the planter was set on (driver) 20 (driven) 27. Planting depth: 1.5 inches. Lorsban 15G were applied to the non-Bt treatments. The planter boxes were set on 15 (I think this was 8 or 8.7 lbs/A). The insecticide was not turned off for reps 2, 3, and 4 (for the Bt treatments). |
