Field scale corn was seeded using variable rate ranging from 24000-32000 seeds per acre. Fertilizer was applied 2" deep, 2" to the side of the corn row. Avipel seed treatment was applied as a dry product to the seed to limit sandhill crane predation.
2022-05-17 Planting Planted corn in the Main Site GLBRC G1 treatment all replications (5, 4, 2, 1, & 3); Equipment used: JD 7330 tractor and JD 1730 planter; Variety Planted: Pioneer P0306Q seed corn; Seed Rate: 34,000 seeds/acre; Row Spacing: 30 inches; Planting depth: 1.75 inches; Pioneer P0306Q has a relative maturity of 103 days and is Roundup ready corn 2 and liberty link tolerant. Also has above and below ground traits (herculex extra, agrisureRW, Yield gard corn borer protection). Full Fungicide, Insecticide, Nematicide seed treatment; No starter fertilizer was applied at planting for the 2022 planting date. Fertilizer pump was not operating correctly so the decision was made to plant the corn on May 17th and apply the fertilizer at a later date. Expected rainfall tomorrow (May 18th) so with the calendar date in mid May we decide it was more important to plant the corn on May 17th before the rain event and apply the fertilizer at a later date. Avipel Seed Treatment was applied in the seed hoppers at a rate of 1 tablespoon for 25 lbs of seed. We used 3 bags of seed ~ 168 lbs of seeds so we used ~ tablespoons of Avipel. Aveipel Seed Treatment is applied to the seed to discourage sandhill-cranes, turkeys, and other birds from eating the corn seeds before the seed germinate and as small seedlings.
