2017-12-18 Harvest Hauled 96 (out of 105 bales) prairie bales out of L1 to Prairie View Dairy Farm (the dairy farm south of Lux Arbor on Parker Rd.) Four loads (24 bales per load) totaling 80,200 lbs net weight (40.1 tons). A Prairie View Farm Staff member unloaded our trailer at their farm using on JD pay-loader.
2017-12-21 Harvest Hauled 180 (out of 255 bales) switchgrass bales out of M3 to Prairie View Dairy Farm (the dairy farm south of Lux Arbor on Parker Rd.) Todd hauled three loads of (36 bales per load) totaling 88,580 lbs net weight (44.29 tons). Joe hauled three loads of (24 bales per load) totaling 58,520 lbs net weight (29.26 tons). 71 bales were hauled to the KBS Dairy for use at the KBS Dairy and will sell a few bales to local farmers. Four bales were hauled to the KBS GLBRC compost pile because the bales were half bales or loose bales totaling 1500 lbs net weight (0.75 tons). A Prairie View Farm Staff member unloaded our trailers at their farm using on JD pay-loader.

Howard Straub III (from the KBS Dairy Center) baled the corn stover on November 19, 2020. Equipment Used: JD 6175M tractor and NH 450 Cropcutter round baler. Equipment Used: JD 7420b tractor (with loader) was used to move/load bales. Equipment Used: Dodge truck and gooseneck trailer was used to move bales. Bales were taken to KBS Dairy Center to be used for bedding for the cows.

These four reps were harvested and bailed same day. T6 plots were not harvest in fall of 2023 due to prolonged wet weather. Locations where the bales dropped from the baler were marked with JD GPS on the LTER Gator. T6R1 and T6R2 were harvested on 4/15/24, due to weather.

The field was not harvested in the fall of 2024 for several reasons: had a late frost date in 2024 so biomass did not senesce and dry down enough to bale. After the biomass did senescence in the fall of 2024 we received consistent moisture in the form of rain and snow that prevented M2 prairie field from being harvested in the fall of 2024. M3 switchgrass was not harvested in the fall of 2024, M3 was harvested in the spring of 2025. M3 was not harvested in the fall of 2024 for several reasons: had a late frost date in 2024 so biomass did not senesce and dry down early enough to harvest (bale). After the biomass did senescence in the fall of 2024 we received consistent moisture in the form of rain and snow that prevented M3 from being harvested in the fall of 2024. Grab samples were collect to put in dry to determine percent moisture in the switchgrass. Grab sample Moisture: 3.25% Four headland passes around the entire field and about 170 addition area was harvested from west side of the field on April 24, 2025. Remainder of field was harvested on April 25, 2025.
2025-08-04 Harvest Baled the wheat straw from the LTER main plot T1 and T2 plots. Equipment used: JD 7520 tractor and Krone Baler, JD 7420b tractor to move bales to the trailer, Dodge 1 ton truck and trailer. Locations where the baler tied a knot and location of bales dropped from the baler were marked with John Deere GPS on the JD 7520 tractor. Grab samples were collect to put in dry to determine percent moisture in the wheat straw. Bales were picked up from the field and weighted on Tuesday August 5, 2025.
