2014-10-29 Harvest Harvested corn in the GLBRC G1, G2, and G3 plots, all reps on October 29, 2014. Entire plot weight was determined by unloading corn from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. Number of corn rows harvested from each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Six rows on each side of each plot was harvested with the Kincaid plot combine and was not included in the total plot weight. Moisture and test weights were determined using a portable Dicky-john GAC500 XT grain analysis moisture tester. Corn harvested was G1 (Dekalb DKC52-59) corn hybrid and G2 and G3 (Pioneer P8906AM) corn hybrid. Estimated harvest time was from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time). Harvested corn in the bait crop around the GLBRC site and 'rep 6' plots. Estimated harvest time to harvest the bait crop was from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time).

2014-10-30 Harvest Harvested corn in the LTER Main Site Treatments T1 and T2 corn, all replications, on October 29, 2014. For yield data collection each plot was split into a 'west' and 'east' half. The west side of each plot consisted of a headland (15' wide) pass along both the north and south side of the plot and then the remaining west half of the plot. The east side of the plot consisted of the remaining east half of the plot (minus the total of 30' for the headland passes). Prior to harvesting the number of corn rows in both the east and west sides of each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. The row splitting the 'east' and 'west' half was marked with colored tape so that the combine operator could identify the split between the 'east' and 'west' side of each plot. Corn was harvested using a John Deere 9410 combine. Plot weight was determined by unloading corn from the combine in to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co., equipped with weigh cells. Moisture and test weights were determined using a portable Dicky-john GAC500 XT grain analysis moisture tester. Corn variety harvested was (Dekalb DKC52-59) corn hybrid. Estimated harvest time was from 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time).

2016-10-24 Harvest Corn Micro-plot harvest. Harvested GLBRC G1 corn from the micro-plot area, all reps, (plus corn stover, and minus corn stover micro plots)(west and east side of all plots). Harvested with the Kincaid plot combine. For each micro-plot all six rows were harvested (the six rows on the west and east side of each plot were harvested). The middle two rows of the six row micro-plot area was reported as the micro-plot yield. Plot weight and moisture were obtained from the on-board Mirus Harvest Master computer/software weighing system. Estimated harvest time was from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (this estimate is just harvest time it does not include equipment set up and equipment clean up time). Harvested Di's and Kate's micro-plot area in G1 reps 1, 2, 3, and 4 only. Micro-plot area was 15 ft (6 rows) by 50 ft.

2016-10-24 Harvest Harvested corn in the LTER Biodiversity Study and CE Study today. Biodiversity treatments and plots harvested: B5: plots 114, 217, 312, 405; B8: plots 118, 214, 310, 408; B11: plots 110, 216, 309, 411; B12 plots 109, 202, 313, 412; B15 plots 112, 213, 301, 415; B18 plots 108, 208, 311, 418. CE treatments and plots harvested: CE2 plots 112, 210, 312, 402. CE1 plots were fallow during 2016 growing season so no harvest from the CE1 plots in 2016. CE1 plots were fallow for a project from the Landis Lab with Monarch butterflies. CE1 plots 108, 202, 304, 401. Two rows of corn spaced 30 inches apart and 90 feet long were harvested. Harvested with the Kincaid 8XP plot combine. Plot weight and moisture content were determined by the the the on-board Mirus Harvest Master computer/software weighing system. Brook Wilke harvested the remaining rows of corn in the biodiversity October 25, 2016 with the JD 9410 combine.

2017-09-08 Harvest Friday September 8, 2017 Justin Mezo cut the alfalfa in the LTER T6 plots. Equipment used: JD Monday September 11, 2017 the MSU KBS Dairy Farm staff raked and baled the T6 plots.

2018-10-18 Harvest Harvested soybeans in LTER Main Site, treatments T4 all replications, reps: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Entire plot weight was determined by unloading soybeans from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. A 15' 'headland' pass from the north and south ends were harvested before the plots. The 'headland pass' was not included in the plot weight. Number of soybean rows harvested from each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Moisture and test weights were determined using a portable Dicky-john GAC500 XT grain analysis moisture tester. Viking Organic Soybean Seed Variety ? , certified organic soybean seed is what was being harvested.

2019-11-04 Harvest Harvested corn and soybeans in the lysimeter field today. The area south of T2R6 was split in half between corn and soybeans this area was split in half so we would have an area to test rainout shelter during the summer of 2019. Corn yield: 6040 lbs at 19.25% Soybean yield: 2800 lbs at 14%.

2019-11-04 Mowing Ryan Anthony flail mowed corn stover in G1 main plots: Reps 1, 5, 4, 2, & 3. Corn stover was mowed into windrows so that they could be bailed. The 6 rows (15 ft) in the west micro-plots of each rep were not mowed. Equipment Used: JD 7420a tractor and Loftness 15 ft Draper Windrower Shredder. Howard Straub III (from the KBS Dairy Center) baled the corn stover on November 4, 2019. Equipment Used: JD 6155M tractor and NH 7060 Cropcutter round baler.

2021-10-20 Harvest Harvested soybeans on the LTER Main Site on October 20, 2021, treatment T4, all replications. T4R2 was harvested on October 19, 2021. Number of soybean rows harvested from each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Plot weight was determined by unloading soybeans from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. At harvest each plot was harvested as one plot area (plots were NOT harvested with the west side and the east side). Before harvesting the plot area we harvested a 20' 'headland pass' on the north and south end of each plot. The 'headland pass' area was NOT included in the harvested data area. The reason that we need to create an 'artificial' headland was because we needed more room to turn the combine around. The current 30 ft grass alleyway is not enough room to turn the combine around. Yes, we harvested a 20' 'headland pass' not a 15' headland pass as was the case with T1 and T2 plots in 2021. The new grain head is 20' wide not 15' wide so the 'headland pass' harvested was 20' NOT 15'. Grain yield and moisture from treatments across all six replications were recorded. Moisture and test weights were determined using a portable Dicky-john GAC500 XT grain analysis moisture tester. Kellogg Dairy Staff help move and unload soybeans form trucks and wagons.

2021-10-22 Harvest Harvested corn in the GLBRC treatment G1 and bait crop corn in plot 603 (did not harvest the bait crop around the perimeter woods yet). Entire plot weight was determined by unloading corn from the combine to a Brent Weigh Wagon, by Unverferth Co. Number of corn rows harvested from each plot were counted and recorded to determine total area harvested. Each plot had 24 rows of corn harvested has the main plot harvest data. Six rows on each side of each plot were harvested with the Kincaid plot combine and was NOT included in the total plot weight (these six rows are recorded as micro-plot yield data). Moisture and test weights were determined using grain analysis moisture tester. Moisture and test weights were determined using a Dicky-john GAC2100b grain analysis moisture tester. Kellogg Dairy Staff help move and unload corn grain form trucks.
